Eternal love:STAMATIS SPANOUDAKIS
The spring-time of our years
Is soon dishonoured and defiled in most
By budding ills, that ask a prudent hand
To check them.
William Cowper
There is mercy in every place,
And mercy, encouraging thought!
Gives even affliction a grace
And reconciles man to his lot.
William Cowper
Your mild replies, if you but hold in,
Will never make, but cure a scolding.
After a quarrel, while you live,
Let the next business be -- forgive.
William Hutton
When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound
to that person or condition by an emotional link that
is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way
to dissolve that link and get free.
Catherine Ponder
To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that
the prisoner was you.
Lewis B. Smedes
One forgives to the degree that one loves.
Francois de La Rochefoucauld
Forgiveness
John Greenleaf Whittier
An He painting
My heart was heavy, for its trust had been
Abused, its kindness answered with foul wrong;
So, turning gloomily from my fellow-men,
One summer Sabbath day I strolled among
The green mounds of the village burial-place;
Where, pondering how all human love and hate
Find one sad level; and how, soon or late,
Wronged and wrongdoer, each with meekened face,
And cold hands folded over a still heart,
Pass the green threshold of our common grave,
Whither all footsteps tend, whence none depart,
Awed for myself, and pitying my race,
Our common sorrow, like a mighty wave,
Swept all my pride away, and trembling I forgave!
Good, To Forgive
Robert Browning
Good, to forgive;
Best, to forget!
Living, we fret;
Dying, we live.
Fretless and free,
Soul, clap thy pinion!
Earth have dominion,
Body, o'er thee!
Wander at will,
Day after day--
Wander away,
Wandering still--
Soul that canst soar!
Body may slumber:
Body shall cumber
Soul-flight no more.
Waft of soul's wing!
What lies above?
Sunshine and Love,
Skyblue and Spring!
Body hides--where?
Ferns of all feather,
Mosses and heather.
Yours be the care!
Maybe not now
Unknown
Maybe not now, but later on
the words you've said will be remembered
they will come back,
full of meaning, and of truth.
They shall return
and they shall speak
as though speaking
for the very first time.
Maybe not now, but later on
a heart will be changed,
a grudge will be forgotten,
a hurt will be forgiven.
In that perfect time
when a light shall be cast
to help us understand
what we have failed to fathom before.
Maybe not now, but later on
we all shall walk upon one road
hand in hand
heart to heart
singing together a brand new song.
In that perfect day
when we shall each otheres face
and be glad that we were friends
in that great journey we called life
In that day, we'll be looking
at the same sky
and we'll be dancing with one song
finally seeing
finally hearing
what our hearts have known
all along.
Forgiveness
by George William Russell
AT dusk the window panes grew grey;
The wet world vanished in the gloom;
The dim and silver end of day
Scarce glimmered through the little room.
And all my sins were told; I said
Such things to her who knew not sin
The sharp ache throbbing in my head,
The fever running high within.
I touched with pain her purity;
Sin's darker sense I could not bring:
My soul was black as night to me;
To her I was a wounded thing.
I needed love no words could say;
She drew me softly nigh her chair,
My head upon her knees to lay,
With cool hands that caressed my hair.
She sat with hands as if to bless,
And looked with grave, ethereal eyes;
Ensouled by ancient Quietness,
A gentle priestess of the Wise.
He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over
which he must pass himself; for every man has need
to be forgiven.
Lord Herbert
